3 Day Toubkal Trek
P.P. / P.D.
The 3 Day Toubkal Trek will take you to the top of Mount Toubkal (4167m) which is the highest peak in North Africa and allows a trekking experience to the peak which involves no climbing.
The itinerary has been designed for keen walkers, as the ascent is non-technical, but does involve some easy scrambling and snow slopes (only in the winter).
The tour starts from Marrakech and you transfer to the village of Imlil where you will meet your guide. You will then trek with your guide, mule and muleteer and private cook, learning about the Berber culture and heritage during your trek.
Make sure you bring your camera as the views from the summit of Mount Toubkal are amazing across the mountains to Marrakech to the north, and the start of the Sahara to the south. During the 3 Day Toubkal Trek you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, green valleys and Berber Villages. If you choose to do this itinerary between November and April two days will involve walking in crampons and using ice axes.
We also offer a 2 Day Toubkal Trek which allows you to have the same experience but the walking is slightly longer on both days and will challenge you more.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil - Azzedane Valley
After your transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,780m), you will set off on a 6 hour trek out of the Imlil Valley and into the Azzadene Valley. Along the way you will pass Tizi N’Mzik at 2,450m, the refuge at Azib n’Tansoult and the Ighouliden waterfalls. You will spend your first night in the Lipeney Mountain Refuge at 3,000m (or before at Azib n Tamsoult, depending on your progress on this first day).
Day 2: Azzedane Valley - Toubkal Refuge
Today involves a fairly stiff climb out of the Azzadene Valley to the Toubkal Refuge over the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views over the Atlas Mountain Range. You will spend the second night in the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut) where you’ll likely be sharing a bunk room with other trekkers who plan on tackling the final part of the Toubkal ascent early the next morning.
This last morning sees an early start to complete the final ascent up Toubkal (4,167m) from where, clouds allowing, you’ll have wonderful views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert. Once you have taken your photo to prove you completed the ascent to the peak of Toubkal we then take the well-worn path down past the refuge and back to Imlil. This is a fairly long day with 8-9 hours of trekking, involving 900m up then almost 2,500m back down to Imlil.
You may then chose to stay the night in Imlil or your transfer will take you back to Marrakech and drop you off at around 5.00pm.
